The right property

Factors to consider when searching for property as tenants in common.

  • Number of rooms and amount of communal space you require.
  • Is the property close to public transport?
  • What are the local facilities? E.g. parks, beaches, cafes, schools, entertainment complexes.
  • What can you afford to buy given that there is more than one borrower? You should take the time to research the average price of the house/land/unit in the areas in your desired purchase areas. Visit www.myrp.com.au for research.
  • The type of house you want to buy. So take into account:
  1. The type of property you want to buy e.g. unit, town house, semi-detached or free-standing houses. This may involve a consideration of whether you would like a high or low maintenance home.
  2. Do you need a large backyard for kids or pets?
  3. Is low maintenance a priority- ie an apartment or a house?
  4. What is the property size and land size?
  5. What is the condition of the kitchen and bathroom?
  6. Is there room to make extensions to the house?
